And the Winner is……..

Massive Congratulations to Maria Knight (and her Hubby to be) on winning a photo shoot in Iceland with me.

Maria entered the competition by emailing me and on News Years Day her name was drawn from the “hat” (a pasta bowl).

I have visited Iceland (this time last year) and fell in love with the people, landscape and whole feel and culture of this stunning Country. So many photo opportunities and amazing light from a photographers point of view too. Brilliant chance to share it with others and help them get some great holiday snaps!

Looking forward to planning the trip with Maria and HTB for later in the year. I LOVE making plans for adventures especially when it involves photographing lovely couples and epic landscapes. We can travel in style too thanks to a discount on car hire offered by Thrifty.

What an amazing way to kick off 2015. Thank you to everyone who entered.

I thought I would share these with you on a blog post rather than just putting them up  in a gallery.

Two hour location Family shoots are available all year round and cost £90. All images uploaded to an online gallery from which you can download and print.

Laura & Wayne’s Wedding Day at Alexander Park

Back in March Laura and Wayne were married. After weeks, possibly even months of rain it had stopped and the weather was very kind them.

Laura and her father arrived at Withington Church to be eagerly awaited by the bridal party and the family and friends they had chosen to share and celebrate their wedding day with.

A beautiful service, followed by photo’s outside the church and a slight diversion for couple photo’s elsewhere before driving to Alexander Park Resort, near Ledbury. As we arrived at the venue there was a tractor with ribbons on the driveway. As the couple both work for Tyrrells in Leominster the tractor was a link to the way they met and Wayne’s job. Inside, a surprise to them both from their work colleagues, was a GIANT bag of Tyrrells crisps. Including the Love Story of how the happy couple met (instead of the normal Tyrrells story) – very cute.

The tractor was a big attraction with young and old and everyone enjoyed the warm weather, sipping drinks outside on the patio.

Many congratulations to a very lovely couple, I wish you many many years of happiness x

Sunny Photo Play Days

Mid way through March already and in a couple of weeks the clocks will “Spring Forward” meaning we will be getting more daylight. After feeling the warmth of the sunshine at the weekend I know I am definitely ready for some sunny photo play days.

As well as planning pre-wedding shoots for the lovely couples who have booked me as their wedding photographer I am looking forward to some Lifestyle sessions too.

Lifestyle sessions are usually held outdoors in the natural light at a location of your choice. Somewhere special to your family. It could be the park, woods, the hills or the beach. You can even bring the dog! They are not all about sitting and posing more about capturing natural moments. The smiles, laughter and loving looks make for the best photographs. They show your family or you and your partner having fun and can tell a story, without saying a word.

It is a good idea to choose clothes that co-ordinate with the rest of the family or your other half, but that are not exactly the same. Choose a colour scheme with a few different shades or colours to mix and match. Jackets that can be taken off to create a different look. Don’t be afraid to show your personalities, after all, these are YOUR photos. Ladies go all out with a colourful necklace, earrings or scarf. Gents, how about rocking a flat cap or straw trilby? Fun shoes also make a  good photograph.

Oh and props, well they are ALWAYS welcome.

If in doubt you can always pop over to my Pinterest boards for inspiration.

So if you do fancy having two hours of fun, whilst getting photographed then please email me.

Small, intimate and lots of fun – Greenman , Fownhope

At the end of August  was lucky enough to share Sarah & Dave’s beautiful intimate wedding. They were very fortunate as the sun was shining (not what the weatherman had predicted!) and it was a great day for a wedding.

Sarah, daughter Molly, Mum and bridesmaids spent the morning pampering at The Greenman at Fownhope.  The Groom, Dave and his brother popped into Peter Prosser for a wet shave, where my second photographer was on hand to capture the action.

Lower Bullinghope Church is a lovely small church and perfect for just over 40 family and friends to feel a part of the ceremony.  After a touching ceremony and photo’s outside we all made our way over to The Greenman where the celebrations would start.

Lovely relaxed day where I could just wander in amongst the happy couple and their guest’s taking photographs. With the wedding breakfast all done it was time for the speeches. With a rather touching speech from the Groom followed by the amusing speech from the Grooms brother/bestman. I couldn’t possibly share the stories but will say bravo…..

Evening guests were in for a treat with a live band and a photobooth to add to the celebrations.

The whole day was beautiful and I was most excited by the bride’s Louboutin black and white shoes and black fish on the top table.

Here are just a few of my favourite photo’s from the day

Every day is a school day

Last Sunday I attended a wedding workshop held by Mick Payton. Mick has 20+ years experience of photographing some of the worlds biggest bands, motor sport and weddings. Today he is the UK’s leading Erotic Art and Fine Art Nude specialist.

Mick also does various tuition workshops  for weddings, boudoir and studio work.

So, armed with camera’s and lenses I set out on a road trip to Walsall. The group was small, me and 6 others. A nice mixed group of all abilities. We had the pleasure of having a beautiful model called Helen as our Bride for the day. The flow of the day was relaxed,  giving chance to direct the model, talk to other photographers, have your images viewed by Mick for constructive critique. Thankfully the weather was good to us and we were able to spend most of the day in the garden.

Whilst talking to one of the other female photographers I was asked “If you have already shot weddings, why are you here?” Good question…..

My reasoning behind  doing workshops is continual improvement, motivation and inspiration. I think everyone should learn something new every day. So my answer to the question was “every day is a school day and there is ALWAYS something new to learn. If you think you know it all you may as well give up!” In the grand scheme of things I am still relatively new to this but my passion, my idea’s and the people I meet are my driving force.

I have met some really lovely people and I hope that with my continual development and ever growing passion I will meet many more. I am looking forward to showing you more of my inspiration and motivation through other workshops but for now, enjoy these images taken on Sunday.

Stop just for two minutes and look….

Spring is one of my favourite seasons. A time where things come to life after the long, cold, wet winter. New born lambs in the fields seem to arrive earlier and earlier, really is a sight that can always make anyone smile. Of course when the clocks “Spring” forward and the nights get lighter, the migrant birds start to return and the sun comes out to play. We start to potter around our gardens, go for evening strolls and plan our holidays. Sometimes I do feel that we should all stop just for two minutes and look. You never know what you might be missing.

In the past week we have had some amazing sunshine and I have been out doing lots of walking (training for my trip to Nepal later in the year) on the Malvern Hills. In my short five minute drive to the hills I pass fields, woodland and residential streets. One thing that has come to my attention in the sunshine is how colourful and fresh everything looks. Magnolia tree’s in people’s gardens. Cherry blossom and daffodils out at the same time this year too. The fields vary from neatly farrowed soil to the bright yellow of Rapeseed flowers or green pastures.  Just on the outskirts of Ledbury the apple orchards, for which the county is famous for it’s cider making, are in blossom too.

Yesterday I discovered the sweet smelling bluebells have started to appear. There are a couple of my favourite bluebell spots not far from me. Jubilee Drive up by Malvern Hills Hotel, and Hollybush near Eastnor. Both will be a blanket of blue in the next few days making for fantastic photographs if you get there early enough to get the lovely soft light.

I am sure I have said this already on here but I do feel very lucky to live in Ledbury. We are surrounded by ever changing countryside for which most people take for granted. Being a photographer (and a nosey parker) I do not miss much and  I like to pay attention to the little details.

Next time you go out for a walk just stop for two minutes and look for the little things. It might not be bright yellow and staring you in the face but I bet it will make you smile.

Wedding Industry Experts Awards “Best New Photographer”

Last week I entered into the Wedding Industry Experts Awards. Yesterday was results day. On tenterhooks I eagerly awaited an email (it is difficult to type with crossed fingers!). Then it arrived……..

With a little squeal and a BIG smile I read the email over and over and it definitely says I have won Best New Photographer for Ledbury & Herefordshire. You have no idea how excited I am to receive this award.

Without sounding like I am making a speech I would like to say a MASSIVE thank you to everyone who has supported me, it means the world. So here is to the future of Melanie Chadd Photography and to meeting lots of wonderful people and capturing many happy memories to treasure forever.

Thank you all very much

a very happy and smiley
